Default Laelia tenebrosa ‘Disciplinata?’ What to expect?

Is anyone familiar with what a Laelia tenebrosa ‘Disciplinata’ might look like? AWZ has a listing for L. tenebrosa ('Fumacina Fujita' x 'Disciplinata') and I was super curious what the latter might look like since I’m only familiar with anceps Disciplinatas. I imagine they would exhibit the same patterning but I don’t know for sure since I couldn’t find any photo examples.

Who knows if you’d even get a seedling with any of the trait passed down even if it was a bold as a good anceps Disciplinata, but I’m still intrigued.

Anyone seen one?

Jen

I saw that on the AWZ list and wondered too. You no doubt got the link to the list from Ron Kaufmann, perhaps direct the question to him, if he doesn't know I am sure he would be willing to ask the owner of AWZ. If you didn't get this from Ron, send me a PM and I can send you his email.

Yes I did get the list from Ron. I’ll send him a quick email and see if he knows. I believe the ordering deadline is on the 18th so I don’t have much time to decide if I want this cross or not! Haha! I wish I would have looked a little closer at the other stuff on the list before today!

The mailing list form Rom Kaufman that went out said the preorder deadline for that shipment was Feb 18th for delivery in March/April. I always order from AWZ through Ron because he’s in San Diego like I am and I very much appreciate the extra help he gives when I have questions and am interested in other plants that aren’t on the most current list. They ship several times a year so this is a different deadline I believe.

So I heard back from AWZ via Ron about the L. tenebrosa ‘Disciplinata.’ Apparently when that plant first bloomed, it displayed a pattern on the petals similar to an anceps disciplinata. The bloomings since then have not shown that pattern and have gone back to normal but the cultivar name hasn’t been changed back yet.

I wonder if those traits might have a chance of showing back up if it was selfed? Pretty interesting nonetheless. I’ll have to keep watching their breeding projects to see if I see those popping up anywhere. That would be super cool! (Btw thanks to Ron for all the timely help!)

Thanks so much to reaching out to Ron to hear more about this clone; I ended up reserving a seedling of the escura cross ('Tedesco' x 'Cacau' or something similar). The disciplinata interested me but I unfortuantely don't have room for a speculative crossing!

This is my first AWZ order; I'm quite hopeful for the plants as there are several that I reserved that seem to be extremely difficult to find normally (Encyclias megalantha albina and moebusii, Cattleya velutina and mendelii concolor). Got a purpurata and the tenebrosa for good measure and I am quite hopeful at the flowerings in a year or two!!
