Encyclia Sima

It looks really good--both plant and flowers. What did Andy state the temperature preference range (or tolerance) is? I also have Dendrochilum glumaceum, and, as you pointed out, it does have quite fragrant flowers. Maybe I need to add an encyclia/prosthechea/anacheillum to my collection (just need to do some research on what they can handle as far as temperatures go). Congrats on the Encyclia sima. Your description of the scent makes me want to give Andy a call.

Andy said these two always sell out first at shows this time of year, so he doesn't list them. If you hurry he may have one that hasn't bloomed yet

I'm curious, what is the fragrance like? I'm guessing that it smells similar to Prosthechea fragrans, like honey with a bit of vanilla. Seems to be pretty similar to Pr. baculus.

It smells just like cattleya walkeriana, a heavy floral fragrance. Like a extra sweet hyacinth. Very powerful too

Hmm, that sounds different than I would have expected from a Prosthechea. They are native to Panama, I might have to see if anyone has any in Costa Rica. I have several Prosthechea species and most do very well for me and are even germinating in the trees around my yard. P. crassilabia and prismatocarpa do OK, though I think they want cooler temps than they get in my yard.

Agreed MGP - and the blooms are visually stunning, as others have said. I love the delicate coloring of sepals/petals and striping on the lip! I've never grown a Prosthechea but that may need to change. Claw, thanks so much for sharing! And if you ever divide it....
