First Cattleya Hybrid! Male
Default First Cattleya Hybrid!

The first to flower from a cross I made of Potinara Samantha Duncan ‘Orange Tart’ and Cattleya loddigesii var. harrisoniana ‘Streeter’s Choice’. I fully expected it to be lavender, but no! Below it are the parents.

Color and pattern are (surprisingly) kinda midway between the parents (in a simple world that's what you'd expect, but not likely what I would expect *lol*), interesting the lip is fuller than either parent (and I think an improvement).
Any others budding up? (would be interested)

Thanks for the comments!

dbarron - yes, the lip shape is definitely an improvement over either parent. I have a suspicion that all of the flowers in the cross will be similar in shape and appearance. No more plants are budding up - this one is flowering in a compot of five plants. Message me and I will keep you updated.

Its beautiful!

I would have guessed that the loddigesii would have been dominant for color as well but I guess those reds are pretty strong too! That lip is so round compared to either of the parents as well

I get the Paphiopedilum vibes.

Nothing like orchid patience (nearly 5 years)
Bayard, I meant maybe try adding others from the cross (when they reach flowering size) to this thread. I'd like to see what happens, I doubt they'll all be identical.
