Default posting pictures right side up...Help

need to know what the process is to load pictures so they do not turn 90 degrees CCW direction, I have tried loading them with 90 degree CW and still they are not upright.

do I need to find a host/storage place on line and just load links to each picture?

Thanks in advance

Upload your photo to Postimages.com, once uploaded choose "hotlink for forums", paste the link in your messages. It will look like this:

You can open the files in your photo editor of choice, then do "save as" - even the same name. That seems to reset the "orientation" metadata. Then upload.

Irfanview is a terrific little photo editor, free for individual use, if you need one.

Possibly incorrect info from other's opinions.
I think (from previous experience), it's an Apple thing. Avoid Apple products and it shouldn't be an issue *lol*. Having never owned an apple device, I wouldn't know why this is so. Otherwise, what everyone said should deal with it. But if you didn't want to mess with it, next time you're purchasing, think non-Apple.

Not an Apple thing... it's an issue for everyone. The OB software is old (even ancient) and this little annoying "feature" is pretty universal. Photos direct from the camera or phone tend to have the problem, those that have been edited at all seem to be fine.

I've never had an issue even with SOC images. But I don't know for certain, so I'll so edit my above post. I had noticed on another forum (GardenWeb I think) that the commonality seemed to be Iphones, possibly older ones.

Actually, I bet I know why I didn't. I never post here truly directly from the phone...and possibly downloading the image from photos.google.com to my pc overwrites whatever metadata may cause the problem.

Photos taken on smartphones, tablets and some cameras can appear upside down or sideways when uploaded to a post or page because the device stores the image's orientation in the EXIF metadata and not all software is able to read the metadata.

In some cases, it matters if the photo was taken in the landscape or portrait orientation.

Well, I use my iphone 11 camera to take pictures and upload them to my laptop using the same usb cable that is used to charge the up the phone. I select the pictures once I have access to the monthly directory on the phone and copy and paste them into my laptop in its own folder. Once in the folder I select each picture and rename it as needed and again move to the correct folder for that type of plant. When I want to upload pictures to a new thread I select the picture and follow the process required. I also preview the post and then post it.
Please note that occasionally a picture gets posted upright as normal and I do nothing different than when I post the other pictures.

Try this: On your laptop, open the photo in an image program. Rotate it 90 degrees and save it. Close the file. Open it again. Rotate it to the correct orientation and save it. Try uploading to OB. This works for me.

Ben, on my iPhone I always need to edit the photo prior to adding it to OB; (usually just something simple like cropping the borders and saving). Somehow, just the action of saving the edit allows the photo to orient correctly in OB.
