Walkeriana arrives!

I purchased this Cattleya Walkeriana that arrived today.
The plant looks great and was well packaged!
The orchid is small which I was totally expecting.

I am trying to decide if I should repot.
The pot is completely sphagnum and I don't have a feel for watering. The other side of the argument is to not repot because the growths are not new and the roots are established.

I have Repotme Cattleya bark but I'm thinking that is too big at this time, though I have it in my Cattleya Mini Purple and it is making roots like crazy I just have to water more often. Same size.
I work from home so watering frequency is not a problem.

Should I repot out of the sphag, now, and what size bark?

What color form is it?

I just got one exactly the same size last weekend that was in sphagnum and I repotted it in medium bark. But that's just mostly because my conditions are warm and humid and sphagnum never dries out here which the walkeriana would NOT like. Eventually I'll move it to a hanging basket which they like the best but not until spring.

Cool! I’d wait until new roots are coming in on new growths in the spring. You can also slip the whole thing out if it’s pot and drop into a clay pot or net pot for faster drying without disturbing the plant.

Yeah, bought from Olympic and the blurb says "These were acquired as ” Pink’, so they will most probably be pink".
I like the look too, so much I just ordered a second one.

Stephen, I think I will keep in sphag until roots start on a new growth and then use small/medium bark.
I'll have to develop a feel for watering in sphag as I really want them to live and one day bloom.

I bought a Cattleya mini purple in October, a Pumila x Walkeriana so I started researching and really wanted a species Walkeriana. I was watching your YouTube vids.

I have to give a shout out to Olympic Orchids.
Great plant, well packed and Ellen answers the phone.

OOOOOh...........pink is the only colorform I don't have. Lucky you.

Olympic orchids still has some available but they are babies.
