Cute! I can pretty much guarantee that it is grown from seed. Fred does very little cloning, essentially none. He cloned a few of the Fdk. After Dark cultivars when they first hit the scene, but he's not doing that any more, don't think. Other people may still be cloning them, but Fred is moving on with new breeding in all of the genera that he works with. Buying one of his hybrids is like buying a painting from the artist. You are getting an "original".

and why at times they have to explain that all the flowers are somewhat different with each one being seed grown. We have one of a kind

Nice! I like buying the seedlings from Fred, too - in addition to the above, he always selects the most vigorous seedlings from the batch to grow on (and culls the weak ones)!

It is fragrant. Revealed today what to me smells like candy corn. That being mostly honey, I guess in adult terms it smells like lightly scented sweet clover honey.
We can say it smells like candy too though.

and saying "Thank you for enjoying my flowers too"!!!

The flower may well get larger over the next week or so. This grex is about half Sophronitis (Cattleya) coccinea. The flowers of that species definitely get larger after they open, and I would not be surprised if this one does the same. Bet the older flower did that too but with nothing to compare it to, not so noticeable.

I think most of the ones I ordered were at least 25% coccinea.

in fact further investigation will reveal some if not all are a peter T lin diamond orchid coccinea ...

it is a small orchid world..

Peter and Fred have always been very good friends. Peter now rents a bunch of greenhouse space from Fred, so even closer, he spends a lot of time at SVO. Yes, very small world.
