Default Brassocattleya Hawaiian Agenda Florida Winter roots

So 11 days ago I took this photo of a new root on a plant that lost almost all its roots when I unpotted, divided, and mounted it:


The p-bulbs are plumping up nicely:


then yesterday, to my horror, I peeked at the roots...


to see this...



My first guess is staying moist for too long but it doesn't quite look like other rotten roots I've seen. Does anyone know more about this? I'm worried this might be happening to more roots than this one and I don't want to take a counterproductive action.

Rats? Another Board contributor, who also lives in Florida, had spikes on Catasetinae decimated by lizards called "curly tails". Another orchid-eating critter...
