Encyclia tampense/tampensis yellow substance?
Default Encyclia tampense/tampensis yellow substance?

I got an Encyclia tampensis with the oldest leaf yellowed and it fell out of the p-bulb on delivery. It had three leaves, and the middle leaf also has the same yellowing. However, it rubbed off the leaf when I touched it! I haven't used a q-tip or anything to try to get in the crease but there's only two leaves so I don't want to damage it. Does anyone know what this is, is it dangerous, if so what should I do?

What comes to mind are some sort of insecticide or fungicide powder; mineral deposits on the leaf from evaporating water and termite frass. I would send a photo to the vendor and ask what it is.

Hmmm... good idea. I wash my hands after handling plants and animals but I still don't want to handle pesticides. I'd like to clean it off since it's blocking light from the leaf but I don't want a fungus or something to come roaring back from the brink of eradication. I'll get in touch with them tomorrow
