Is the Encyclia Enthusiasts Group still functioning? The website partially works, though it's not fully operational and looks pretty dated.

Also, any favorite Encyclia books? I really love the genus and want to dig into the literature. These three are fairly common, but I would love to hear of others.

The Genus Encyclia in Mexico by Robert L. Dressler and Glenn E. Pollard

The Cattleyas and Their Relatives, Vol. 6: The South American Encyclia Species by Carl L. Withner

The Cattleyas and Their Relatives, Vol. 5: Brassavola, Encyclia, and Other Genera of Mexico and Central America

Yes, the software is old, and it's highly unlikely to be updated. So we work with it. There are threads discussing this in the About This Forum forum.

I don't think anybody uses the group feature. My impression is people look at all the threads posted, then read the ones that interest them.

The fastest way I know to do this is to go to the top maroon menu, and use the Quick Links | Today's Posts. They're displayed in chronological order. But occasionally a new post doesn't show up here. That has led unfortunately to some beginner questions not being answered promptly.

Another way to do it is to go to Forums in the left yellow menu, and scroll down the list to see which ones have recent posts.

A good friend of mine just moved to the Conroe area. Sounds like orchid growing heaven in summer. I hope to visit some day.

Thanks for the reply. I think we are talking about two different Encyclia Enthusiast groups. In the August 2006 issue of Orchids (I think thats the issue...) is an article describing a new group called the Encyclia Enthusiast Group with the website Home.

Conroe is HOT in the summer, its been 100 degrees for 2 weeks now and it won't really cool down until October.

Yes, I misunderstood. On that page I found this:

Had a look at the link. All the links on the page are broken. You might contact AOS for information, since they were affiliated.

Somebody must be paying to keep the domain ownership and the site hosted, some of the links do work. I looked it up using WHOIS which displays very little information, but the domain is owned by someone in Auckland, New Zealand. You might try emailing one or more of the people who are listed as officers. If one of those emails is valid, you can ask what's going on.

My family used to vacation on Lake Conroe if not Whitney or Tawakoni. It can be 100F+ in the summer (I saw 105 once) with hard freezes in the winter. That 100+ would come with high humidity which might be a saving grace for orchids but not for people!
