encyclia tempensis red... Male
Default encyclia tempensis red...

Well, i thought i had seen every shade of tampensis that there is, having been in the orchid world in south FLA for 30 + years and having seen many dozens of in situ blooming tampensis in Broward county and many more bred plants by many growers and sellers and then last monday at local OS meeting I saw this. I traded for a couple of bulbs and promptly removed the spike and mounted them a bottle brush tree branch. Have had and seen the standard tampensis, the alba, a light green/slight yellow and various lighter and darker shades of standard color form but never a red form.
Anyone ever seen a red shade of tampensis?

I believe that’s a hybrid; the lip isn’t right for tampensis.

Will investigate from trade partner as to source and it could possibly be a natural hybrid. Might have to send pics to a few "experts".

Beautiful color! I'm curious to see what you find out regarding it's heritage.
