Default Cattleya Green Esmerald " Orchid Queen" - Zombie Mode 🧟

Hi!!

Here I present you a Catt Green Esmerald " Orchid Queen" in a Zombie Mode from the moment I received 2 years ago.

It came barefoot, I potted in Sphagnum with Bark chips without news for 1 year, then turned into SH and developed 1 root, and now is backward or just frozen in the same stage.

This plant is not in the trash because I have plenty of space 😂 if not.. it will be gone forever.

So, what do you this... Any experience or diagnostic ??

Thanks

I went to orchidroots.com to look up the ancestors. It has many bifoliate ancestors. Some of these only root at certain times of the year.

You didn't show roots. Does it have any? Don't pull it up to look. It might be a long time before it grows roots. It needs to survive until this happens. If it makes new roots it should make it.

I would not repot now. I would keep it as humid as possible so it doesn't dry more before it makes roots. Do you have a very large jar or terrarium? Let the medium get dry between waterings but not for long.

Do you have Kelpak? I would use that once a month.

It might make it but you must be prepared in case it does not.

Thanks, ES.

I have all you mentioned. Terrarium and I fertilize with Kelpax 1 x a month.
Should I place it on the high light terrarium then?

It is true that if anything happens once a year. Right now it has 2 roots very brown but alive.

Shoot, a bifoliate with only one viable root might not be worth the effort to save. Personally, I would toss it after a year of doing nothing.

Thks. Steve...

It is hard for me to toss orchids but I need to learn cuz I waste time + effort + money on several unworthy plants, I haven't got to that grower maturity yet

PD: though I have to admit that sometimes out of the blue a survival reborn and need to be babysitter for yrs.

I wouldn’t be putting that plant anywhere near other plants, and especially not in a terrarium. I’m with Stephen. Toss.

While there's green there's hope. Rescuing orchids like this one, even if it doesn't make it, that's what makes you learn the most valuable lessons.

Sade - Is that a banana in one of the pics? I THINK I remember that orchids do not like to sit near ripe fruit. The experts here will know.

BTW - Poor Orchid Queen looks a lot like some of my cattleyas that are in intensive care -- awaiting the bin!) It just happens. ROBB
