Got myself a Sophronitis coccinea

I know I said that I'm not going to try this species...but I did purchase a small seedling from Hausermann's in July! It was cheap and I have started using RO water and Ray's K-Lite for all my orchids, so i figured to try it out.

So far, it's looking great - pushing 3 new growths at the same time and growing a new flush of roots. I'm not going to change its pot or media, as it has room to grow and is in large bark for the size of the pot - so, I'm watering frequently and keeping it close to the fan in my tent. It seems to like it so far - let's hope my luck continues!

There's something growing again...I think it's a new growth, that supposedly, will be followed by more roots. From what I've read these plants grow in winter (although here we are still far from it, over 30ºC/86 F).

Looks good! Mine tends to bloom in December. New growths means "maybe flowers" since they tend to come together.

I am finding this one as a really slow growing plant. Is it from my environment or this is how it grows?

That's how it grows. It's just slow. Which is a good thing, it stays small. One of the charms of the species.

Update on this one...4 new growths...one is growing nicely, the 2nd one is growing too but is smaller and slow while the third one seems to be stalled.
There's a 4th one, that judging by its high growing rate seems to be the most vigorous of them all but unfortunately got trapped and I can't see any way to release it without damage.
This plant grew good roots this summer (when I got it) and some of them are long inside the pot (some coming out through the drain holes.

But there's something bothering me a bit...one of the pbulbs it's completely black in one of its sides.
Any ideas about what it could be?

Growing conditions:
- So far, it's outdoors
- 20ºC/65 F (day) and 11ºC/51.8 F (night)
- RH: 60% / 90% (day/night)
- Light: dappled bright light until noon, after that bright shade (it gets some direct sun for one or two hrs around noon)
- Water: distilled water with bi-weekly low concentration fertilizations (50 ppm N). Watered almost every day.
