C. warscewiczii and a corsage hybrid

The warscewiczii are now in sheath and this eager first bloom seedling had to beat the old timers by a couple months. Not the greatest Alba warscewiczii around but a nice show from a line bred seedling we can trace from Envigado back to Leo Holguin and to Firmin Lambeu (all of which are sheath at the moment and would be cool to compare, I’ll add pictures as they bloom). Funny enough if you asked me five years ago I would never imagine growing unifoliates, as my passion lied in bifoliates but since then my favorite species C. warscewiczii has changed my mind and drained my bank account. I didn’t notice this had spiked and as they grow in full sun, the spike arched and flower pendulously.

The second picture is C. Nellie Cohen, an original division of a 1940s corsage cattleya I’ve chopped to oblivion and back many times. This is second year from a measly two bulb division, growing in sphagnum moss in an uncovered corner of the lathe house, fully exposed to the sun and the elements. Prolific bloomer and grows like a weed.

To rotate photos: On your upload computer open the photo in an image program. Rotate 90 degrees in any direction. Save and close. Reopen the image. Rotate to the correct orientation. Save and close. It should upload with correct orientation.

I use GIMP image manipulation software on my desktop. It is extremely complex, like Adobe Photoshop. But if you use it to open an image that is not rotated properly, it will offer to correct the problem. The you save it again and it will upload correctly. The Windows image viewer also works, but it doesn't recognize malrotation and doesn't offer to fix it.

I’ve found if you’re using a phone (iPhone) in my case, that if you edit (I crop) the photo, the correct orientation will display when uploaded to the forum.

Beautiful flowers, I especially love the alba seedling! Looking forward to more pictures in this thread. Warscewiczii might be my favorite Cattleya species as well; I've got a Firmin Lambeau mericlone and line-bred alba seedling (from the FL line) I will also enjoy comparing when they both bloom. I also think I received a natural tetraploid semi-alba seedling from SVO and can't wait to see what that will look like when it blooms.

Another trick that i have found that tends to fix the rotation issue... open the photo file in your viewer of choice, do a "save as" instead of "save" . You can use the same file name.
