C. lueddemanniana rubra
Purchased a couple seedlings a few years back. This one, from its earliest days had extremely pigmented leaves, almost red even when the growths matured. I had high hopes for a nice dark flower and here is the result. This has been the darkest of the bunch and the pictures are taken under full sun. In person it is a deeper darker velvet, form leaves a lot to be desired but we’ll see what happens in future bloomings!

Ohhhh, that's stunning! That's the type of color I wanted on my "rubra." Do you recall who the breeder is?

Thank you! I can’t stop staring at it but will wait to bring it inside when the rest of the buds open up. I don’t remember the breeder unfortunately but I do remember the parentage 'Canaima's Panita' x 'Maracay' AM/AOS. I know orchids limited offered this exact cross at one point but I believe they bought either seedlings or flasks from the breeder.

I think those broad petals foretell better form on subsequent flowerings. Spectacular color!

I have that cross from Orchids Limited and the buds are starting to rise in the sheath. The tag suggests they did not make the cross. That is an incredibly dark and nice color, sort of like mossiae ‘Willowbrook’. Not every seedling will be lucky enough to be that dark.

How does it smell? I saw a C. lueddemanniana in bloom at a greenhouse recently and it had a mild, but pleasant scent.
