I understand that there are differences in the blooming season, size, and color between C. loddigesii and C. harrisoniana. I wonder if there are cultural differences between the two closely related species, such as temperature tolerance? From what I can gather, they are similar beyond the difference in growth/bloom cycle.

Thanks in advance!

As I understand it, there are two ridge lines in that part of Brazil. Loddigesii grows on one, and harrisoniana on the other. In the middle there is a hybrid swarm of plants, which probably range from 99/1 through 50/50 to 1/99.

I can't imagine that there would be any significant difference in cultural conditions.

Thanks, I wanted to see if I can grow these outdoors. I was reading that C. loddigesii can tolerate nearly down to freezing and I was wondering if C. harrisoniana may be similar.

I grow both (outside) and treat them the same. So both have cold tolerance.
