Earlier this year I "unmounted" my nodosa by simply ripping it out of the decaying mount, cut out shrivelling old bulbs and put it in a plastic container filled with LECA. It adjusted remarkably well and proceeded into blooming as if nothing has happened....well not really actually, the growth of this year is somewhat weaker than the last year, but still, it does adapts readily to the change in the environment. It is truly the orchid for everyone, IMHO.
