Cattleya trianaei first bloom!
Here is the first bloom on this Cattleya trianaei. The shape is a little wonky but maybe it will improve in future blooms. I don't detect a fragrance yet... maybe it will kick in in a few days.
As always, it was difficult capturing the red properly. It always looks odd in photos...

Looks excellent Jeff! If you're up to it ----- see what happens if you ever so carefully, and ever so gently ------ very gently -- unroll the upper (dorsal) sepal, and then see if you can reverse the geometry of the sepal from currently 'convex' shape to a concave shape. Once it flips, it may stand upright.

Love the splash petal pattern. Pelorics can have petal distortion when the effect is strong, but doesn't look like a problem here, very gentle.

That is a beauty Jeff! How large is the clay pot it sits in? Can I ask how often you water and fertilize it? I have a seedling of the same that I would like to raise as well as you did 😄.

I tried but it did not budge. the sepals are pretty hefty on these. It's okay I'm not too worried about that. I was hoping the lip would unfurl a little better but it seems stuck.

Can distortions occur in splash/flameas? I thought that was more the true (?) peloric. I'm glad this one came out okay!
