Steve, Check out the videos on Odom's Orchids You Tube site. Several are symposium lectures about historic old Cattleyas. There should be a lot of ideas for you.

This is slightly off topic, but....

One problem with the vintage varieties is that most of the original divisions are virused. I'm sure that isn't news to most people here, but the recent development of techniques to grow virus free clones may be. Virus- free mericlones of some of my favorites: clones C. warscewiczii alba 'Firmin Lambeau' (Diamond Orchids) and C. warcsewiczii semi-alba ‘Frau Melanie Beyrodt’ (Steven Christofferson) are two of them and virus free C. Lueddmenanniana semi-alba 'Cerro Verde' AM/AOS will be available from Chadwicks in a year or two.

I've been watching these developments with great interest. Having those old clones available without virus will be a game changer!
