Thank you all for your help! Your suggestions are appreciated. I can see that there's a lot of detective work involved in finding older species divisions. I'm not in a good position to respond to each of your suggestions. I have only small smart phone and my fingers are very large. I ditched my pc for a phone a few years back and one of the results is that the time I devote to my favorite internet groups has dropped dramatically. I used to spend an hour or two most days chatting about plants. It was fun on a PC but is un-fun, dare I say tedious, on a smart phone. A smart phone is convenient for quick searches, but not for written communication.

One thing I do see is that I'm going to need to decide what I want specifically first, and then search for it, rather than my usual shopping style of perusing websites until something strikes my fancy. Thanks in advance for further suggestions. Please don't think I'm unappreciative if I don't respond immediately to each post.

Steve, Check out the videos on Odom's Orchids You Tube site. Several are symposium lectures about historic old Cattleyas. There should be a lot of ideas for you.

This is slightly off topic, but....

One problem with the vintage varieties is that most of the original divisions are virused. I'm sure that isn't news to most people here, but the recent development of techniques to grow virus free clones may be. Virus- free mericlones of some of my favorites: clones C. warscewiczii alba 'Firmin Lambeau' (Diamond Orchids) and C. warcsewiczii semi-alba ‘Frau Melanie Beyrodt’ (Steven Christofferson) are two of them and virus free C. Lueddmenanniana semi-alba 'Cerro Verde' AM/AOS will be available from Chadwicks in a year or two.

I've been watching these developments with great interest. Having those old clones available without virus will be a game changer!

Keith -- can you elaborate about the virus-free technique on old catts? Or point me at a link? Thanks.
