Default C. violacea 'Muse'

C. violacea 'Muse' is flowering again now. This time ---- is a single bud. It started to open yesterday evening. Nice and fresh for us this morning.

Beautiful - personally, I like the gracefulness of a single bloom!

Your posts made me go buy a C. violacea (After the last time you posted). I've read that they hate cool temps and wet feet. Knowing my propensity to overwater, I mounted mine.

How do you grow yours?

Jeff ----- excellent to hear that you bought a C. violacea! I agree with you - that a single bloom is very nice, and graceful too.

I think so ----- as in there really is some consensus about relatively cold plus wet can lead to growing issues for a lot of orchids.

For this violacea in my growing area - it's just growing in 10 to 15 cm average diameter scoria, with a good drainage pot. Over here, I notice it handles temporary dry-outs of the media ----- no problem at all. There generally is some gentle air-movement in the growing area here - so the air can gently move around among the media.

In the morning, I just use a water spray nozzle (with a 9 litre) weed sprayer bottle kit for watering all the orchids. The tropical environment here is generally nice on the orchids.

My growing area is under a balcony. Lighting level is pretty good for most of the day. A lot of the orchids even get some full morning sun.

I do have to watch it in the hottest days of summer though ----- as some orchids in the growing area may even get some early after-noon sun, which can be quite intense. That's why some of my catts have the scorch marks on the leave hehe. They always pull through though. But I still have to watch out for that kind of thing.

The main nasties here are the usual - scale and mealybugs ----- and sometimes -- spider-mites.
