It stays fairly compact FN. It's about 2 cm taller than a burana beauty. I think it's a fairly new hybrid although I have seen people have it for a while too. I hope more people find it.
I'm not sure where you could get them in Europe at the moment. You will have to keep an eye out for one. I'm sure Schwerter have had them in stock in the past.

Can't comment on its growing habit too much yet but it seems to adapt really fast. I can highly recommend it, might be a new favorite

It was registered in 1988 by Krairit Vejvarut. There's an address but couldn't find nothing except is in Bangkok, Thailand.

I want to give an update on what happened with this plant.

It never produced any fragrance and the flowers only lasted 10 days. :(

Yes, I was shocked. This should by all accounts be a fragrant catt and long lasting.

But I did (at least I think it was me) give it a huge outbreak of thrips. They appeared shortly after buying the plant but as you know I already had them on other plants. They just loved the varut. Only non-treated plant about and they just swarmed on it.
The roots pretty much all rotted away while it was flowering.
That was it's big push before it lost all roots. So it's not doing great. It's gotten pretty dehydrated but it's hanging in there.

Luckily I bought 2 varut's. And I didn't put them in the same growing area. I wanted to test different growing conditions. So the other varut luckily didn't have too much of an issue, I think it got thrips once and that was it. The roots are amazing on the other one but it didn't want to flower. It was in the hot grow space.

So at new years I moved it to where the other varut flowered and to my great delight that one is pushing out 3 flowers now.

They should be open end of the month, the roots are in great condition so lets see what potential it really has.

I hope I haven't put anyone off the varut. This can literally happen to any orchid. And it completely explains why the flowers didn't produce a fragrance but fingers crossed things work out better for my second one.

It's a bit of a flower mash up unfortunately. Knowing my luck the flower spikes will probably elongate a bit more over the next few days but so far the flowers have been pretty squashed together. Still work in progress.

And the next catt on the way

I have a large Varut Startrack. Mine is also not fragrant but it puts on quite a show twice a year.

Very nice display and pics. The bouquet effect is very nice --- as is the gloss/sheen, colours and pattern.
