When I got to the greenhouse today, there were several pleasant surprises.

First up, a seedling which bloomed once before.

At the time I put a price tag in the pot, so I was willing to sell it last year. This year the flower has improved (about 4" NS), so I pulled the price tag out. However, the plant was large enough, so I divided it = 1 keeper and 1 for sale.

Second: A previously unbloomed seedling, which I bought from Waldor Orchids just over a year ago:
Rlc. Kakemizu Splendor (= Williette Wong 'The Best' x Oconee 'Mendenhall)
This is a 5"+ flower.

Third: Waldor Orchids sends out a division list once or twice a year. From the last one, I went for a division of a plant that has no awards, but earned a CCM for Waldor in October 2019.

Despite recent dividing & repotting, it has 7 flowers on the inflorescence.

They all look the same to me I'll admit Kim so if you want to keep me interested more let me know which ones smell the best

I know it's probably not one of your judging criteria's but it should be.

1st You got the best of both options with the first plant. Interesting tactic with the price tag.

2nd Love anything with dowiana background and this plant certainly doesn't disappoint. Bloom looks huge!

3rd Another lovely plant, seems quite the determined grower too from what you said.

I'll ask same as Shadeflower, any of them fragrant?
Although I would be happy with them fragrant or not.

I cut the flowers off of #1, but will check 2 & 3 tomorrow.

In the meantime, I was curious about the ancestry of #3, so I looked it up. It is surprisingly simple; and the flower is very full for something that is 50% aurantiaca, 25% guttata & 25% bowringiana:

so if you have a division of a mother that is subsequently awarded, does yours become award winning as well? i feel like it should, same exact plant, no?

Yes, a subsequent AOS award applies retroactively to all natural divisions made from that plant.

I like the simplicity of #3. Who would've thought it was 50% aurantiaca. The bowringiana influence was striking in this cross.
