cattleya aclandiae
This plant belongs to a friend from my local society. She brought in for the bloom table a few dats ago and I thought it needed to be seen by more orchid aficionados.
I was impressed by the size of the flowers and color. I have grown several aclandiae in the past and seen few awarded at redlands show in south miami including an FCC plant a few years ago. None were the size of this flower. The grower confirmed she has shown it at AOS judging and the plant was pulled but not awarded. She was told that the lip was too curly and needed to be straight like a spade.
the dollar bill just behind it is show the dimension of the bloom.
The vanda to the right is one of my plants. I forgot to take a picture of it. I cut the bloom and gave it to a friend.
Can someone advise on why pictures are rotated 90 degrees and how to adjust the upload? usually have no problem and pics are loaded correctly.

I love the bloom. I would be happy with one.
As far as pictures go, I upload to Postimages — free image hosting / image upload, choose 'hotlink for forums', and paste here. Pictures load with no issues.

That is a beautiful, very large flower!
Some phones don't preserve to rotation information correctly. This might work on your phone if your viewing application lets you rotate images. Or, export to your computer. Open the image in a viewer. Rotate 90 degreea in any direction. Save the file and close. Open the file again and rotate properly. Close again. It will upload properly.

Wow! That is incredible! If it has the famous aclandiae fragrance, it is a treasure whether the AOS thinks so or not.

Wonderful colour. Matches very well with the vanda flowers too.

True ------ orchid competitions and awards have their own little aspects about it.
But - if we don't focus on competitions and awards, then we can enjoy the beauty of orchids and orchid flowers ------ nice and beautiful and natural. That's what I like to do.
Although - friendly rivalry and competition, and achievement/accomplishment in getting an award is something nice for some people, including orchid breeders (if business related etc) ----- is something I also respect. It's all good - when it's all in good spirit.

I think all rectangular photos are automatically put in "landscape" mode. Consider cropping to get the desired rectangular shape.

Beautiful! The color on the lip is pretty intense! Is that how it looks in real life or is that the photo?

photo was taken with my Iphone and no changes made to it
BTW, the plant's owner said she has been asked several times for a piece of it. She confirmed that she will not split the plant at all.
BTW2 this grower is one of the society's best and she has a bunch of AOS paper to back it up.
