Sounds like you answered your own question! I'd say increasing your water frequency is a pretty good plan to move forward!

I have to admit I am no good with mounts myself. I've literally moved my last mount into a pot this year. Not sure if that is useful or not but I'm the last one to ask how to grow with mounts. Luckily everything that used to be mounted at mine does do ok in pots.
Equally I have seen brilliant results with people growing on mounts so it really must depend on the grower.
For me potting them up has been what has worked best for me although I am struggling a bit with my haraella retrocalla, it really should be mounted but considering my watering reliability at times I feel that is not the best option for me either.

If you can spray then I'd go with spraying instead of using moss. You can also try just spraying the cork, so spray around the roots. Roots like a humid environment best, I think my problem with mounts is that I was soaking the roots directly too much but this is just something you should experiment with yourself!

All I can say is for me personally roots grow best when they are touching something damp but hardly look wet themselves.

If you can spray daily that should in theory work out best but with a disclaimer that I am no good with keeping orchids on mounts.
