Prosthechea prismatocarpa - Orchid Board

My first plant of this genus was a small division from the former president of Deep Cut OS. I grew it large enough to breed with, and then lost it in the 2017 freeze.

In Oct 2018 I obtained a back-bulb division with a single new growth (all pseudobulbs far smaller than BS). It disappointed me by not blooming last year, but it is making up for it this year. The plant currently has 6 or 7 BS leads, and each lead has started 2-3 new growths, so I am anticipating +/-15 spikes next year.

It might be a pipe dream, but imagine if we could get it to breed with a large flowered spotted Cattleya. This is something I have fantasized about for years.

knowing how tricky it is for my prostechea to bless me with a spike I can appreciate the impressiveness of this plant What does it smell like?
I want to get a better picture of what it might smell like.

I have gotten myself soooo lost in all of the nomenclature changes.

Kim- Is it currently Prosthechea or is it now Panarica?

It started as Epidendrum.
Then it became Encyclia.
Currently it is Prosthechea.

Panarica is a proposal, but it has not been accepted (yet?). I recently read an article by Julian Shaw (RHS orchid registrar), and as I recall it, the name for a genus may honor an individual (such as Seidenfadenia), but it may not be a geographical name. If that is correct, Panarica cannot be approved.

and didnt they just change Seidenfadenia????

I’m having a tough time with this one in my tent. I think it may be a bit too warm. Was also going to try a freer draining medium. Any tips, Kim, et al?

like kim I have lost track of what they are meant to be called.
I have an Encyclia chocoensis and Garciana, whether they are both now prostechea or whether one is and the other is still an Encyclia, they grow roughly the same to me so they shall remain my little encyclias.

PS: Encyclia Garciana does not need low light! At least in case you are wondering why I was struggling lol, it's now under my highest light and not getting burnt so yeah a Garciana can handle high Cattleya light which I didn't know

Bright; 2500-3500 Footcandles (very bright indirect light)
