LC Edissa
This is Laeliacattleya edissa. It’s special to me and perhaps other people who grow the cattleya alliance outdoors in cattleya-marginal conditions because it inherits from its parent anceps a tolerance of cold winters.
LC edissa is a primary hybrid of L. anceps and C. purpurata.
At first I was a bit disappointed that the flower leans so heavily on anceps, but it is about 30% bigger and its flowering 3 months later, so i guess its earned its place. This one is a first flowering and has suffered terrible neglect for the last 18 months so perhaps with a bit more care I can get a more impressive result.
Like any plant growing in conditions that really suit it, it’s almost impervious to disease and even pests like scale insect seem to ignore it.
I bought another hybrid of anceps as a tiny bag baby at the same time - LC Santa Barbara sunset. It hasn’t flowered yet but grows just as well and is equally bulletproof in our conditions. Im looking forward to seeing it flower, although I understand it is a mid-winter bloomer so I guess it won’t be this year.
