Rlc. Memoria Helen Brown
It's lettuce time once again!
These buds are not from the same plant shown earlier this year in April.
Same 'clone' though!

This photo is taken in the early afternoon. More open!
Seen with our own eyes ------ the slightly darker lime-green colour in the throat region is sort of flourescent ----- quite interesting.

no idea who Helen Brown was but just like Cymbidium Memoria Marvin Gaye was named in memory of the musician Marvin Gaye I'm presuming this one was named in memory of her.
Looking great so far.

Thanks for mentioning Marvin Gaye. Definitely one of the music greats. I didn't know about the cym named after him until seeing your post. I think it's great - very fitting.
Regarding Helen Brown ------ it would be so nice if anybody in the orchid community knows who that particular Helen Brown is. The cross is known to have been registered by Fred A. Stewart Orchids Inc.
But that company is no longer around, and that owner is no longer around as well. And hard to say if anybody that is still around today knows about that particular Helen Brown. Maybe some information can be revealed by somebody in the future if there is some luck!

Very nice. I don't grow any cattleya hybrids, but I do have a soft spot for green ones--especially the big girls like this one. With a fair degree of Cattleya dowiana in its background is it safe to assume that it has a decent amount of fragrance?

Cosmopolitan magazine had an Editor, Helen Gurley Brown, many decades ago. She had the reputation for advancing the "Sex and the city" lifestyle. Could be her?

DeaC ----- maybe plausible!! I've been stumped over the 'mystery' of Helen Brown. The detective work is still ongoing here hehe.
S.F. ------ the 19th century guess is possible too! So far - my previous guesses have been :
Some botanist from the past named Robert Brown ---- a fairly long time ago, who's mother's name happened to be Helen Brown ..... but google also says 'nee Taylor'.
And then some orchid community people mentions a name of Joanne Brown, who was probably well known in orchid circles before. So I wonder if she might be linked to somebody named Helen Brown heheh.
Or other possibilities, such as somebody named Helen Brown that was a worker (or otherwise) at the orchid company (not existing today though) called 'Stewart Orchids' --- aka Fred A. Stewart Inc.
Sort of unfortunate how the orchid cross is Memoria Helen Brown ....... but information about the name seems to be out of reach, or maybe even lost these days. But that's ok. Maybe some information may surface in the future!
