Hello, fellow orchid lovers! I just joined the forum and wanted to introduce myself. Over a decade ago I first set my eyes on a cattleya and was instantly in love. Ever since I have been collecting orchids, mostly cattleyas, although I do venture into other species occasionally. I live in four season climate and grow orchids mostly on windowsill, with short stay outside during summer months. I occasionally search web for tips, and often find the answers here, in orchid forums. So I decided to join the community, hopefully to contribute and also find advice from more experienced growers. I do well with large cattleya types such perciavaliana, Irene Finney (one of my favorites), CG Roebling Sentinel, warscewiczii and few others of similar sizes. I recently challenged my skills by acquiring few small dowianas, they are still live and kicking, although I suspect I will turn to this forum for advice soon enough.

Thank you! I am excited to be here, with likeminded people. Just wanted to share my current blooms, Lc. Irene Finney AM/AOS and maxillaria tenuifolia "Yamada" AM/AOS

Hi Inna,
likeminded is correct as in mostly just hobbyists that won't know much more than you. You have already gotten some beautiful orchids to flower!
So take asking a question here lightly. When it comes to what gets a phal to produce new roots it helps if the person giving the advice has been in that position and succeeded to advise but here every Tom Dick and Harry will use an orchid question to make themselves feel knowledgeable by giving a technical answer that is theoretically correct, will make you feel like you are less experienced but will not benefit you to grow better orchids in the slightest.

I often come across as the grumpy guy on here I suppose because I don't like people giving an answer to a question just for the sake of giving an answer to come across as knowledgeable (instead of maybe not having an answer) but the worst is if an answer is given that is plain wrong and will even end up being detrimental to orchids. I see it all the time on here and if I point it out I get told I am not allowed to criticize.

Apart from that this place is great. Wish there were more people showing their flowers but they usually get intimidated by all the technical knowing people that never have any flowers to show and just strut around telling others they know best.

Being in the presence of such great minds, even if they never have anything to show is awesome.

Love it.

Welcome to Orchidboard! Nice blooms, that Catt sure is stunning. As to the Max ten, I wish the yellow forms were more common at vendors, it sure is a nice one. Does it also have the typical coconut scent? I have the standard type, and if this species didn't grow to be so enormous I would buy the yellow one in a heartbeat.
