Cattleya tenebrosa var aurea from marblekg
Default Cattleya tenebrosa var aurea from marblekg

I recently bought a selfing of Cattleya tenebrosa 'Walter Grange', you know, the really nice yellow one, from Waldor. I love Waldor.I only recently started ordering from there, but I highly recommend. In fact, the plant was listed as sold out, but he said that he had kept aside several for his personal collection, and he sold me one of those.

Anyway, shortly after that I saw a listing for a tenebrosa aurea on eBay. It looked to be about the same size as the one I got for 35 dollars, but it was 100 dollars and it was sold by marblekg.

Just for the sake of curiosity, just to see what he would say, I sent him a message telling him that I have bought several plants from him, and not one turned out to be the right plant. I asked him for such an expensive plant, how was he going to guarantee that this was in face tenebrosa aurea. What would we do if it bloomed out and it wasn't yellow? What would we do if it bloomed out and wasn't a tenebrosa at all? How could he guarantee me that I was getting what I ordered if I spent so much?

Well, that was several days ago, and he didn't respond, which I guess in itself is a response of sorts. Anyway, just a fun experiment I tried that I thought might interest some of the others. If you don't know marblek on eBay, his plants are ridiculously overpriced, and never bloom out to be the plant he claims he sold you. It's like he takes any random plant, puts a label on it that he thinks will sell, and just sends whatever he has when you order, and then when you contact him about it, he tells you to bugger off. So stay away from him if you don't already know.

I've not had the best of luck with this seller either. You may want to check out the website for Palmer Orchids, which is located in Bradenton, FL. Marblekg is located in Sarasota, which is less than 14 miles from Bradenton. I have a suspicion, based on what Palmer regularly has in stock, that Marblekg is getting a lot of his/her plants from Palmer, and then he/she is marking them up significantly and putting them on Ebay. That's only a guess, however. The most annoying thing to me is not the inflated prices, but the misidentified stock. I too have received enough mislabeled plants (and sometimes with no label at all), and I won't waste any more money on this seller.

On the other hand, I have bought from Palmer in the past, and my experiences with them have been nothing but very good. They have quality orchids that (to me) are reasonably priced, and their customer service is equally good. Others I've talked to have said the same.

JS ------ maybe could have popped this one under 'vendor feedback' or something, as it's not directly focusing on C. tenebrosa var. aurea

On the other hand, might as well talk about C. tenebrosa var. aurea while we're at it hehehe ......

starting from this link below:

this guy buys from a lot of the local nurseries there, does a shoddy job relabeling, and seems to not care at all about being an honest businessman. Plantio la Orquidea is currently selling C. schilleriana coerulea seedlings for $35.00. The guy buys these and puts them up on ebay for double or more. I've also noticed that he will "rename" things to make them seem better than they are. often times leaving off the other part of a crossing to highlight a well known parent... amazing that he still has good feedback on ebay.

On the other hand, maybe this thread should be transferred to 'vendor feedback', as the general public visitors may think that this thread is really about using this Cattleya section of OrchidBoard for getting personal with an ebay seller, instead of chatting about C. tenebrosa var. aurea.

But actually SouthPark, one can post wherever they want. Are you trying to ride moderator shotgun?

I presume if JScott wants it moved, he'll ask.

WW ...... I purposely chose 'maybe' ..... basically suggesting 'optionally'.

It didn't say 'necessarily' or 'must'.

In other words ------- it is true. One can certainly post where-ever they want. And then there are choices ----- for moderators -- to make.

Also WW ----- what I was 'hinting' at is ....... the thread isn't or wasn't about C. tenebrosa var. aurea --- as in celebrating the flowering of it, or pics of it, or the growing of it, methods etc.

It is more toward getting even with the ebay seller for what the ebay seller did and/or exposing the seller's activities and behaviours. So the thread appropriately belongs under the 'vendor feedback' section, or 'orchid lounge'.

Yup. Say it once, fine. Say it twice, unh-uh. Not a hint. That's where moderator choice steps in and says unh-uh. Your "appropriate" isn't necessarily someone else's appropriate. Doesn't really matter what I think.

The "post where ya want" has many meanings. The only time a moderator suggests moving a thread is directed to the original poster. And it's only to get better coverage. Appears this one's already getting enough.

WW ... you yourself mentioned we can post where we like. So this includes when and where we like, and what we like.

So when I give a hint more than 1 time (eg. 2 times, but not more than that) .... there is nothing wrong with that at all. The main thing is to be polite.

I basically 'suggested' moving of a (this) thread. It actually makes (made) good sense.
