Hey guys!
I received a Blc. Dream Trader 'RJM' x Bc. Phil Andrews 'Mendenhall' today. It is in a 2 1/2-inch plastic pot, it has 6 growths on it with air roots coming out the top and 1 root exiting the bottom of the pot (not quite an inch long), it is top heavy and falls over easily...can anyone give me some culture on this one? I thought about putting it in a slightly bigger pot (3"?), but was unsure. Also I am wondering about the light and water requirements as well...I am hoping it will bloom this fall! Thanks for any help you can give!

Best Regards,
Eddie

Hi Eddie. If it is that top heavy, I might go to a 4 inch pot. Don't worry too much if some of the roots get broken, since it sounds like they are pretty healthy. These guys like to dry out somewhat between waterings, and like a lot of bright light, and humidity around 50 or 60%. Pretty much standard Cattleya culture. Good luck, and keep us posted.

Thanks for your response Kim, I keep my cattleyas in a south window, they get quite a bit of light...I hope this one will bloom this fall....

best regards,
eddie

I like to use clay pots as they are heavier and usually will support your cats/cat crosses better than plastic. I also would put into a pot that will allow enough growth for two years without crawling over the edge of the pot. Hope to see your blooms later when they bloom.
