Cattleya labiata
Flowering for the first time. Although the blooms are pretty, I am not enamored of the fragrance. It smells like old lady perfume.

hi sm, congrats on your flower. I am starting to become a fan of cattleya so am just learning about the different varieties. Hopefully someday I will be able to have one flowering at mine.
Labiata was on my list of the most fragrant along with walkeriana, granulosa, dowiana and digbyana.
Thank you for clarifying the smell, your desciption is good enough and trying to research the smell of walkeriana I came to the conclusion that walkeriana must have a similar fragrance, apparently irresitible to some but not everyone likes it.

Do you mean a fan of cattleya in general? Or fan of species cattleya? Do you like hybrids as well?

I like old ladies. I also like most old perfume. Nobody seems to wear Opium any more.

I don't mind percivaliana's scent at all. It's not to everyone's liking, but I don't find it to be musty, pungent, or any of the other negative terms I've seen applied to it.
