I was at my friends grandpas house and he had lots of chids, but this Encyclia selligera blew me away. He has it growing on a very large Floss Silk Tree.

*Update*-----------
This is a Encyclia hamburyii. I made another trip over tonight to get some better pictures. I have a another 1 of the psuedobulbs growing on the tree and a few of the floss silk tree. This tree when in bloom puts out a very beautiful pink flower. I have heard people call it an orchid tree before.
Brandank, Thanks for the photos of the tree. It looks huge and those protusions on the bark almost resemble cacti. Are they sharp? Do you know if the tree is endemic? I've never heard of it before! Very interesting.

The thorns are very pointy and will stab you if you lean against it. I seems to only grow in zones 9a, 9b, 10a, and 10b. Here is a picture of the flower
Shirley, the floss silk tree (Ceiba speciosa syn. Chorisia speciosa) is native of South America, but widelly used as ornamental tree in several countries.
