Default Rlc. Village Chief North 'Green Genius'

This cultivar is readily available, but hasn't appeared for a few years or so in OrchidBoard. Lots of pics online.

This time, we'll just take a look at a bud pic, and a flower pic with no direct sunlight shining on it.

When the sun is shining on it, the violet colour can turn more pinkish/red (visibly that is). I don't think the violet patches ever appear as full-on red-coloured in bright sunlight.

The cat hairs on the leaf of the bud pic are compliments from ginger cat hahaha. I have since removed the hair from the leaf.

There happens to be an ant on the tip of the bud. And the open flower pic shows that the white stripe region is thicker on the left-hand petal than on the right-hand petal. That's how this flower panned out haha. Some individuality is good (as mentioned in some other thread).

Also - interestingly, there really is another orchid having one parent the same (ie. Rlc. Memoria Helen Brown being the same parent) ----- that develops flowers looking just like this one. That other cross is Rlc. Yen Corona 'Green Genie'.

The cultivar names are quite similar. Two different crosses - very similar looking flowers - often said as being visually indistinguishable. Whether it really is visually indistinguishable ------- not sure (yet).

I forgot to mention - the brown long leaf is from the oldest leaf of a paph. Dried up, and haven't removed yet.

hahaha! Totally agree about the names - both the cross name and the cultivar name haha.

I put some effort into detecting scent from this flower this morning - and didn't detect anything at all. A bit cold this morning - although a different catt had a scent.

The 'Green Genius' might not have a smell ...... but will see if I can detect something when the day-time temperature comes up a bit!

DC - I was smelling/sniffing the flower with all my might when the temperature came up a bit, and no scent detected at all!

For this one - undivine intervention might be needed (perfume spray haha).

cool, man. thanks for checking.

I am only secondarily concerned with the flower's scent but it is still nice to imagine for me when i look at these amazing flowers i may never see in real life, how many of my senses i can activate in the imagination that makes it more real and brings life to the image!

Out of curiosity, do the sepals fade like my Yen Corona?

Herrania ----- I will keep monitoring this for the Rlc. Village Chief North.

At the moment, it really appears that the sepals of Rlc. Village North 'Green Genius' do become or appear lighter in colour than when the sepals were brand new ----- or when the flower was just beginning to open. The darker green colour of the sepals ----- when the bud first started to open - appears to become lost after a while ------ leading to a lighter/paler greenish-yellow. A duller colour.

Also - the sepals probably do appear darker (just in appearance) during the morning or evening when the sunlight isn't shining ----- due to decreased illumination.

I definitely do notice that when the sun is illuminating the sepals ------ the sepals aren't glossy green. More like matt yellow-green.

Update : Herrania ----- just confirming that the sepals are indeed a pale lime green. Relatively light yellow-green colour. That's the chartreuse colour. Even in the early morning with no sun shining on the flower - definitely a pale yellow-green colour for the sepals.

I was thinking that reduced illumination would just give a darker sepal appearance. The sepals did fade to this lighter colour. Definitely we know it's not a degradation sort of fading. A feature of the flower. Very interesting! Thanks for uploading a pic of Yen Corona!!!!!! Very nice!

======= UPDATE =======

One more pic taken much much later - Tues 15Sep2020 - showing much more colour fade. I really like how the flower really holds up - stays together with aging. The only thing I can see so far is just colour fade. No blemishes at all. Quite impressive.

Google drive pic included below:
Pic link - flower faded but holds up nicely
