hahahaha! Jeff ----- your pics turned out great - even the original ones you showed.
What happens is ----- the orchidboard automatic image processing (for our uploads of images --- automatic process) not only converts our images to a size of about 1024 x 768 pixels (sometimes even smaller) in pixel dimension --- but also further removes as much detail as it can in order to make the filesize relatively small --- eg. just 80 kilobyte. The image is still watchable obviously ----- but the nice sheen, shine, sharpness, colours often won't be there ---- which is what we expect when too much compression is done.
A 1024x768 image uploaded to orchidboard will usually be less sharp and less vibrant etc than say a regular 1024x768 pixel image linked to google drive. That's because the uploaded orchidboard image has more image detail discarded.
