This is one of the plants I got from the infamous Marblekg. It was supposed to be C. percivaliana 'Summit'. I got so excited when I started to notice the first sheath last year swelling with buds, but then when they opened, I was momentarily crushed and furious. This was the second plant I bought from him that bloomed out to be something totally different than it was supposed to be. However after the initial disappointment, I realized it really is a nice plant. The plant is compact in size, about ten inches tall from rhizome to leaf tip, while the blooms are huge, almost 7 inches. It isn't something I would have picked out for myself. It's too "floofy" I think is the word I've heard people here use, and the color is so sweet it almost makes my teeth hurt, but it's grown on me and I'm glad to have it now. It's not what I wanted, but it is beautiful anyway.

One thing is ------ I think many orchids generated much interest from the beginning due to their beauty and showyness - their colours, frillyness etc. This sort of orchid is one that draws attention ------ definitely draws my attention.

As for the word 'floof' that some people might use to describe this particular style of showyness -------- those people just have to realise that some of us orchid growers and orchid lovers may like a broad-range of orchid flowers and orchid styles.

So ------ comments like 'too floofy' is just their own opinion and their own particular taste. Just like food lovers ----- some of us will eat pretty much anything. Others ----- may like particular things. And some ----- very particular.

I have a few that are kinda sorta like that but I checked and below is closest but it's not the same.
And I've never bought anything from that vendor.

Like I said, it's not something I would have picked out for myself, but I really love it and I'm glad I have it. You could even think of the mislabeling of the plant as a happy accident, because I ended up with a really nice plant I would not otherwise have had.

That's a beautiful flower, and pretty similar to mine. I won't be buying anything else from that vendor. It worked out this time, because I ended up with a nice plant that I really love anyway, but that was lucky. I could have just as easily ended with something that I had no interest in.

Colour and shape shouldn't be associated with potentially discriminatory or derogatory or prejudice etc connotation.

Showy and colourful - vibrant - pretty - beautiful ------ that's what I see ----- from an artistic and colour/shape point of view.

The above is only 'general' ...... general ----- about that word only.

SP- our joke is that I shop for plants from a list and she shops for plants from lust!

Since moving my collection to the Keys 6 years ago I've created a list of species that a) are warm to hot growing and b) will bloom between October and May when I am here to see them. I try to stick to my list or hybrids of plants on my list but she likes to just buy what catches her eye. Some work out, some we never see again. But hers are all "poofties".

KG heheheheh ...... it's great how you're both involved --- the building up of your collections. Your combined collection is likely quite awesome.
