Good for you. Most of what they sell now are divisions so you know you are going to get a blooming size mature plant that has already been well grown. Yup, it's more expensive but you're starting out with a real "no waiting" plant.
It is very robust but takes up much less room than a lot of catts with smaller growths just by its habit. Mine is in a 10 inch pot and there are almost 40 pseudobulbs in there and I'll leave it in that pot for at least another year. They are very thin at the base coming off the rhizome and the fatty part of the growth is 4-5 inches up the growth so it's maybe a bit top-heavy. Unifoliate and the leaf is very thick but grows noticeably upward off the cane before flaring outward. I guess my point is yes it's big but it's growth habit allows it to be compactly grown, if that makes any sense.
