Easy to grow, easy to bloom, with blooming twice a year. And as the namesake goes, it is very blue (well it is technically mauve but it is still gorgeous).

Also, the strong citrus scent inherited by walkeriana is added plus.

Beautiful! I really like the look of this one - shape and colour. Walkeriana is nice, but not a fan of the ultra splayed-out side-lobes of walkeriana. I like this one (much more appealing in my eyes).

I will have to read up on why they say violet coloured orchids are 'blue' or label them as 'blue'. Were they colour blind or something? hahaha

=====

Update: I found one particular orchid, what appears to be a walkeriana, exhibiting side-lobes that aren't splayed right out. I would love to find a walkeriana just like this one --- Click Here.

Particular kinds walkeriana with very splayed-out side-lobes are still nice though. Inherent feature.

I was thinking the same thing...these "blues" are vastly different from mine haha

i am SURE it was a marketing ploy

I love seeing your plant in bloom, it's so gorgeous. The color and shape is just wonderful. And then I look at my Final Blue just sitting there, doing nothing and teasing me with completely dead sheaths....

For your plant to bloom twice a year, are you getting 2 flushes of new growth per year as well? And it looks like you are growing it in S/H?

Yes, the plant sends out new growth during spring and autumn, each blooming on its own in later time. And I grow it in semi-hydro, and the plant itself is on south-facing window. It gets lots of light. Perhaps increasing the light intensity will help your plant to bloom.

Thanks for the information! Mine already is in a south window, so I think I just need patience. It's supposed to be blooming size but still a small plant, so it could be that it wasn't mature enough yet to flower.

From what I've seen, "blue" in orchid names seems to be mostly a gimmick to draw attention. The reason being is that there are no actual "blue" orchids, because almost no orchid contains the genes necessary for making blue pigments. As a result, as long as you're not colorblind, you SHOULD perceive all of those orchids as being purple lol. (and of course, there's always some people that will use a bit of photo manipulation to make them look more blue...)

I know of one lab in Japan that has been able to create a "truly" blue orchid, by introducing a blue pigment gene from delphinium into a phalaenopsis. As an aside, I have experience doing genetics tinkering, so if anyone is interested in doing something like this, and has super deep pockets to fund it, hit me up
