After uploading these small files to orchidboard, the orchidboard software then does some processing - resulting in similar pixel dimensions, but the file size becomes 80 kilobyte or so. A reduction in quality occurs.

Even though not always noticeable - an orchid flower image of rough size 1024 x 768 pixels before it goes through the orchidboard processing is generally less sharp than the same dimension image (around 1024 x 768 pixel) before upload to orchidboard.

I personally don't mind the extra compression that the orchidboard software does to the uploaded files. Merely saying that the flower images uploaded by orchidboard users are likely to be much more spectacular and sharp than what is uploaded. It's the extra processing that the orchidboard software does that reduces the image quality.

That is - a 200 kb 1024 x 768 pixel image before upload versus a 80 kb 1024 x 768 pixel image that results after the upload (due to compression done automatically by orchidboard software).

Also - the reason why I keep referring to dimensions like 1024 x 768 pixels is that the orchidboard resizing software will resize automatically large images down to dimensions of roughly these dimensions ---- in general that is.

Thanks again, your photos always look beautiful. I could use a good camera but I am looking for the most practical, I will try to do as you say.
