I think it might have been just some super virulent fungal or bacterial rot, and maybe it started in the rhizome, so by the time there were any visual symptoms that something was wrong, it was just too late. I've had a couple Oncidium types die in a similar fashion. They seem fine one day, then all of the sudden all the leaves are falling off and the pseudobulbs are squishy. That may have had something to do with a failure to repot timely and the mix got sour and I didn't adjust my watering accordingly, but as far as that tenebrosa goes, I have no idea. I was doing everything right. The growing conditions were ideal, my other Catts were doing great. It's just one of those things. S*^t happens, and you can't explain it or understand it. Nature is crazy, and orchids are the craziest of them all.

And I'm already excited like a little boy about my new tenebrosa. Marlow has some excellent plants, and I'm glad I found such a nice one from somebody I know I can trust. I like Santa Barbara, and I know I can trust them to give me good plants, but I generally avoid them because their prices are just so very high. I've bought from them when there was something I really wanted and nobody else had it, but I always check everywhere else first.
