FDK spike growing roots

Interestingly, this guy also has a bunch of active growing roots in the pot as well... Not sure if that has any link with the spike roots. He also has 2 other nodes that are starting to grow, wondering if those spikes will develop roots as well.

I'm so tempted to water it, it's taking me a lot of self-control to leave it alone!

No nothing under or next to it, but it does have a node on the other side at the same height that is swelling and could be either a new growth or spike forming, hard to tell at this stage, I'd put my money on spike though.

You know, those bulbs are nice and plump without water so far. I wouldn't worry until it starts to shrivel a bit, then you could try dribbling a bit around the outside of the pot, or just over the visible roots.

Hold your hands behind your back so that you don't water it... Not time yet. New roots need to get much longer... best to wait until the second group of roots is about the length that these (in the first group) are now. The plant is green and p-bulbs are nice and plump. In fact it looks like it never really went dormant. (Maybe taking a little nap, but not sleeping) Probably another 4-6 weeks at least.

I know, I know lol I don't water from dormancy start (or January) until new growths are big enough, which for me is around May. This year I actually waited to see the new roots reaching the bottom of the pot before watering. I find the root system grows a lot quicker when you withhold water longer. I do however occasionally lightly mist my Catasetinaes during dormancy, I find it helps keep the bulbs plump, they do afterall get some water or morning dew in nature...

I also mist a bit... after a couple of months of no water I do see a little shriveling so figure that they need at least some moist air.
