Mormodes x Cycnoches Dormant/Spiking

I have a Mormodes cross from Fred Clark tha's coming along in spike.

I know these go dormant and aren't supposed to be watered. What if they are (double) spiking? Can the plant bloom without depleting the existing psuedobulbs? Or does it need some water until the bloom period is over?

Does it still have leaves? I would be watering but not fertilizing while the blooms develop. I like to keep up infrequent watering if the most recent bulb starts to shrivel, also. A few dribbles of water around the perimeter of the pot are not going to cause rot.

I would write to Fred for suggestions. Some Catasetums flower when fully dormant, and it does deplete the pseudobulb - but not fatally, since the plant has evolved for this.

I have a plant with 8 spikes forming on 3 pseudobulbs. I’ve watered it once in the last month. This group can and does survive and thrive without water in the dormancy period.

I’m tapering off water by this stage with all of mine. Some still have all of their green leaves which will get a little more water (once a week maybe) and others are almost completely leafless (watered once every 2-3 weeks, at this point). I have stopped fertilizing all of them. I base the watering regimen of my Catasetinae off of the leaves and pbulb/root growth, not the flowers or spikes. Some of the late blooming ones, like the cycnoches, will bloom in full dormancy but that’s what they do and I just carry on with my normal winter care.
