New Cycnodes advice

I just got a Cycnodes Wine Delight, and shipping seems to have kick started dormancy. It is also in the early stages of spiking. Should I water? Should I let it flower at all?

Hello, I've had this happen many times before. With small plants, I try to coax them out of going dormant with warmth, light, water, and food. But if the plant is blooming size, and has made up its mind, it's harder to turn around. A picture would sure help. Has it dropped any leaves, or are just a few tips turning yellow? Is the new bulb shriveled at all?

I would ask the vendor if the plant was going into dormancy before they shipped it. The stress of posting it may have caused yellowing of leaves.

The board is being weird about photos but the newest pb is large 5-6" from base to tip and 12" from base to tip of the leaves. 5 leaves have gone completely yellow and one has fallen. The newest pb is not shriveled at all.

Cycnodes typically start their blooming cycle when still in leaf and continue well into their winter nakedness. I would continue to water and give warmth, but, should the plant drop all leaves, then stop with the watering and just keep lightly moist, but still relatively warm. After the first spike of flowers you may well get a second from the leafless bulb. This is normal. Once the plant has stopped blooming give a good, sunny, dry rest through the Winter. As you see new growth in the Spring start with misting and then move on to watering as the roots get long. Cycnoches and Mormodes are very warmth loving, therefore prevent undercooling, especially when humid. They are prone to rot. Also, back-bulbs are rarely over 2 years old, so don't panic when the oldest yellow and shrivel away.

I'm still unable to post pictures, but with the advice of the posters in this thread I seem to have worked it out. It's in bark, and I think it went dry for a couple days in the box. I soaked it in water with fert and the most recent back bulb plumped up, and the leaves have stopped yellowing.
