Stanhopea tigrina

Rothrock42, Stanhopea hernandezii is my favorite of the group. It's not an easy species to find and I don't think it's commonly found in collections today. But it's a fantastic plant.

I do grow the plants in the house during the winter. Everything goes into a heated sunroom (I just keep the vents closed to help keep the temperatures cool since all of the plants in my small collection appreciate cool winters). In the spring they all get hauled back outside again.

If your plants are well established (and appear to be adult size) I would suggest gradually acclimating them to higher light levels. Don't shove them out with the vandas, but a little more light might be beneficial.

Here are a couple of photos taken today. It has a lot of new roots growing under the medium and also out of the pot.

Thanks to a few days in the 90's nearly all of the buds have opened or will be within the next day or so. And now the neighborhood hornets have discovered the plant, which I don't mind, but it does make you look very carefully before planting your nose deep inside one of the flowers.
