Except that you haven't had a point and haven't provided help for Manfred's original question. Every post of yours has been a useless waste of time. I advised chopping the plant because of direct experience and from the advice of others. You've done nothing but show your rudeness and proven how little you can provide to a conversation while saying a lot. Congrats. You've officially shown the internet your true color.

Manfred asked for advice from Catasetum plant experts. I don't profess to be an expert nor do I have a solution to his issue. In fact I don't generally give advice unless I have learnt about a resolution directly and then only with a preface under my conditions. I hope " the internet" ( geez ! ) can see that I don't make over the top comments, use hyperbole and rhetoric and throw around labels in an unsuccessful effort to obfuscate.
For the sake of clarity I have copied below what I said and what triggered your comments. The phrase he "doth protest too much " springs to mind. Look it up.

"Many people repeat and pass on what the "experts" say without any direct experience. For most people that is probably OK, but it is very frustrating for people like me who are genuinely interested in expanding their knowledge, to the point of actual seed propagation. I have tried all the methods to get either male or female blooms. Nothing has worked for me.
I am not sure of what theories Anthony Trewavas espouses but if based in science and not hearsay, then he's ahead of most".

Thanks. I'll take that advice from whence it comes.

@ orchidsarefun ('repeat and pass on what the "experts" say') ; see above ::

I understand where 'orchidsarefun' is coming from .
Tons of wild speculation ('conspiracy theories'), lacking any logic, is nowadays being disseminated in all fields of life.

And the Catasetum male-female syndrome discussed here sounds indeed pretty weird ...

However, 2 botanists (G.Gerlach / F.Populin) say the same - so, then, let's accept the news for the time being.

I am suggesting that 'orchidsarefun' , like I myself, might consider to set up an easy little trial program ...
to try to confirm the astonishing Catasetum male-female syndrome ...

PS : what the theoretical botanist Anthony Trewavas is about can easily be googled .
