New plants and spikes Male
Default New plants and spikes

It's been a while since I posted any pics, guess I'm getting excited for the blooming season! First, new acquisitions from Alfredo Manrique

Left to right:
Mormodes-
andicola
Rolfeana
Variabilis
Warscewiczii

Cyc cooperii

Spikes, Fdk. Gemstones (Mo. Painted Desert x Ctsm. Orchidglade) I count at least 14 buds

Fdk. Majestic Orchids Shopper (Fdk. Dark There After x Ctsm. Orchidglade). Two spikes on a first bloom. What a dumb name

Two clones of Cyc. Pineapple Popcorn (Cyc Kevin Clarke x Cyc. warscewiczii), one with 3 spikes forming in a 3" pot

And now we wait...

Wow! Three spikes! What are the chances that they will all mature? That would be quite a show.

I'll most likely cut two of three spikes and let one form. I wouldn't want to stress it out like that

Should be a great show soon enough! How did you order from Alfredo?

He was kind enough to take preorders and mail them out when he came for the US for the Huntington show this weekend. I wish I would have jumped on it sooner. I could've ordered from Mundiflora as well. I've been on the hunt for mormodes species

Going to be a nice show. So this is not late for these to be blooming? I just trying to learn about them.

Catasetinae as a group are highly variable with their bloom times. Many bloom in spring, summer, or fall; depending on the species in a plant's background. Winter flowers are also not unusual for many crosses.

What Steve said

Most Fredclarkearas bloom in Winter on leafless bulbs.
Most cycnoches bloom in Autumn on bulbs beginning to lose leaves
Most catasetums bloom in Spring, Summer, and Autumn when happy
