I've noticed the blooming plant is shriveling quickly now, likely due to increased metabolic burden placed on it by the spike. I'll start watering today, which a bit earlier than I'd prefer.

Height of the new growth(s) when you decide to start watering. I have one Clowesia that is about 10" high, with the leaf tip stretched up, but may hold off watering since the pb's look like they have not even started to shrink.

I have a bunch of different hybrids and species that are all different sizes. My Clowesia Grace Dunn's newest growths are about 10" tall.
The root length and p-bulb shriveling is the real determinant for watering.

Very helpful - Thanks. You have greatly reduced my urge to water! Since I have both of my Clowesia's in LECA, it is a little hard to determine root length, but I see new roots popping out. I'll wait to water until I see noticeable shrinkage.

This is a great thread. I'm really drawn to these because of the pbulb's appearance. It's good to see their nature before owning one.
How long are these usually dormant for you?

I think I usually withhold water in early November and start watering again around Memorial Day. |
