Simply amazing! I used to be a pure species grower until I saw Catasetum hybrids. Perhaps I should reconsider.....

Yep, Catasetinae is probably the only group that consistently makes this species snob say, "WOW!!"

Fantastic plants and flowers. I really like the two mormodes and the Cycnoches pentadactylon. Are (were?) the blooms of all three of these species fragrant? Congratulations on the lovely blooms.

I grow mostly species in everything else but w/the Ctsm group, I find I'm more drawn to the hybrids...I have 30 plants and only 6 of them are species. Well, I have a fair number of Trichopilia hybrids too...they seem to be less fussy than most of the species.

They were all fragrant. I don't remember what the pentadactylon smelled like but I do remember it wasn't super strong. The mormodes are both very fragrant and they have that same sort of menthol-y sort of medicinal scent that most of these guys have. Don't quote me on this because my memory of fragrances with these guys is sketchy but I think both of the morms had citrus-y tones to them.

Some people don't like the medicinal sort of smell that these guy exude...but I haven't found one that I didn't like. Not yet anyway.

These are FANTASTIC!!! You are a great orchid grower and these plants really showcase your skills, even though we didn't need any additional proof because all your plants are so gorgeous! Great job, Katrina!

Awwww...thanks, Nikki! That's so kind of you. FWIW...there are some orchids that might say otherwise...I just don't show those off. Me and masdies...ooooooh what a nightmare.

Thanks for looking everyone and thanks for the wonderful comments.

I too like the menthol-like fragrances that some plants in this group have. I have a couple of hybrids that even have scents that are almost like an industrial plastic with a floral overtone to them. It's a difficult combination to accurately describe, but the scents are (to my nose) very good, especially when the plants are sitting in a warm and sunny location. Now I'll have to look for a couple of the mormodes species or hybrids after seeing how attractive yours are.

I agree...the fragrances are very difficult to describe. I always think medicinal w/something else. My Wine Delight smells like cherry cough medicine. The Clowesia that I have tend to have a citrus tone to the medicinal. There might be some out there that stink...but I haven't run across any.

I love the strange twisty blooms of the mormodes. The only downside is that most of them are fairly short-lived flowers. Of course, many in the Catasetum group are like that. I think the longest blooming mormodes I have is around 10 days for the blooms. Those plants that produce spikes at intervals do last longer but the individual spikes are good for a week to 10 days. Morm skinneri might be a tad over 10 days, but not by much.

Wonderful job Katrina!

How do you overwinter them during the resting period under lights? Do you still water them but less or completely no water? And what about temperature wise? I always kill all of mine during rest by withholding water
