Catasetum Wake Up call ! Male
Default Catasetum Wake Up call !

just noticed new growths on my catasetums - all except Fredclarkeara After Dark. I've also split a couple, first time I've done this. My Millenium Magic is now split into 3 and has 1 new growth. I'm encouraged as early growth ( at least in my conditions ) means a longer growing season for them outdoors. Last year new growths started late March/April.
They are all now unpotted and bare root in clay pots.

How funny, my After Dark is further along than any of my others. I wonder what determines when they sprout? Maybe the date of their previous bloom? Actually I have two After Darks, and the one that is furthest along is the one that bloomed first last year, so a longer time between bloom and new growth.

The earliest of mine to wake up was Wine Delight, but then it flowered early, around September, and did go into dormancy shortly after (I sort of forced it to actually by stripping off the leaves as they kept getting spider mites).

It has been slowly getting bigger since late January or so. Lots of fat roots and I'm thinking "should I leave it or cut off the older growths to have more plants?".

I bought Cyc. Jumbo Puff from Big Leaf orchids early January. It came as leafless unbloomed seedling with two little pbs. Smaller one yellowed, wrinkled up in the last one month or so.
The bigger one has been growing a new shoot with roots.

I just noticed today that Cyc. Swan Cascade x Jumbo Cooper is also showing its new growth poking above the sphagnum moss.

Now I have only one that is still sleeping.
Jumbo Cooper x cooperi.
