Fdk After Dark "SVO Black Pearl" FCC/AOS
I was given the green light to go get my Christmas orchids and it was a great purchase! I have been watching two SVO Black Pearls at my local orchid shop, Island Orchids for weeks. I was so surprised that they stayed so long without being purchased? Well, it was a good thing for me  I recently became unemployed, so recently I have been to the shop only to look, O it is sooo hard! My fiancé knows how much I love my orchids so he made sure I could enjoy a few Christmas orchids The wonderful owner was there and she knows I am a regular so she gave me a discount..an in bud SVO Black Pearl for $20?!?! I couldn't believe my luck, I also got a Vanda with one bloom for $10. Today was a good day!

Nice deal! My Black Pearl is also currently in bud. I wish I'd paid $20 for it! And I really hope it blooms before the end of the month......

 the fragrance on this orchid is so strong! It has a strong chemical smell. The only think I can compare it to is lantern oil or paint thinner, it's so strange. The flowers are just beautiful. They seem to have a red tinge to them, they are not as dark as some other SVO Black Pearls, but I don't mind

That goes to show how subjective smell is! Mine is only mildly fragrant to my nose, and has a smell very similar to anise, but sweeter.
Edit: Today the fragrance is stronger, and the sweet component has become slightly unpleasant, akin to rotting fruit. Most complex and unusual!
