Grasshopper eats part of new growth!

I found a grasshopper sitting along the pot in which my catasetum is in. I have been watching this new growth and that grasshopper met its death when he decided to snack on this new growth. Like I said before, this is my only catasetum/cynochis so I have been carefully watching this new growth. The pest had a couple bites out of the baby bud, along with some of the roots that were not quite 2 inches long. Is my plant going to meet the same fate as Mr. Grasshopper? And to think, all those plants out in the opening and this thing has to come into the sunroom to eat on a tiny growth!

I think your plant should be fine. Even the new growth will probably be ok, maybe with a slightly deformed leaf or something. Im always amazed at how well very young new growths are able to recouperate after some traumatic event. And even if the new growth does die, your plant will probably send out a few to replace it!

I have caught a large grasshopper chomping on a Cattleya leaf! Go figure! The leaf was quite thick but he was eating away. I caught it and promptly cut it in half!

What makes it worse is that that nasty insect has or HAD 21 acres of our property along with the rest of the whole world to find lunch, but he just had to find his way in my house! Well anyway, hopefully the plant is ok!

You may want to take a look at my post of several minutes ago under Oncidium. A grasshopper ate one half of the spike which was nicely forming. After cutting it off, there are three beautiful spikes now and it has only taken three weeks.
